Accessible Boating Thames Summer Season 2019

Accessible Boating Thames Summer Season 2019

As well as our Spring and Autumn sessions of Social Sailing (which take place on Sundays) this year we have also run sessions right through the summer holidays but on Mondays. The final Monday session will be on 26th  August with the autumn sessions starting on Sunday 1st September.

We have had nine regulars on the Monday sessions o there is plenty of room for anyone interested who is qualified at level 2 RYA dinghy sailing. Qualifying can be done through the Bisham Abbey Sailing School which is a Sailability Centre (or at any other similar centre). You can learn and then enjoy the social sailing in the safe environment of the River Thames at Bisham Abbey.

Source to Sea Fundraising Attempt 2019

At midnight, September 6th Spetember 2019, the Shiplake Outloars – a fixed seat traditional rowing club – will be attempting a non-stop row for 167 miles from Lechlade to Gravesend – Source to Sea – of the River Thames.

The crew, made up of five me with an average age of 52, will row for nearly two days and two nights, stopping only in the locks.

It is estimated the crew will take 42 hours to complete the journey and failure is a real possibility due to the severity  and magnitude of the challenge.

On board is Guy Fisher, a long time volunteer and supporter of the sister charity to Accessible Boating Thames, Rivertime Boat Trust.

This row has only been attempted by a hand-full of a mad few. This will undoubtedly be the hardest challenge any of us have attempted.  It’s been a number of years since we asked for some money for a challenge in our boat, and we feel that this one warrants asking friends, families and contacts for a few quid to help the Accessible Boating Thames with their unbelievable work”.

The crew will exclusively be raising money for Accessible Boating Thames and have set a target of £10,000.

The crew who travel to multiple races over the season is asking for individuals and companies to sponsor them, with all proceeds going to the charity.

The club is offering to allow a sponsor their eye-catching boat for a year and place their logo on it for a minimum donation of £3,000.
